Activities & the Community

By offering this range of extra-curricular activities the college actively engages with the local community — respecting students’ interests, availing of community facilities, and being aware of local sporting and extra-curricular traditions.

The college also avails of outside coaching expertise in organising activities, ensuring students benefit from the highest quality of instruction and mentorship.

Procedures & Communications

The extra-curricular staff follows a number of procedures in organising events and games. All pre-event steps must be followed to ensure safe, well-organised activities.

Principal approval required — all events must be approved by the Principal prior to organisation.

All activities should be planned well in advance. Limit to two activities per day where possible.
Inform teachers as early as possible using the calendar in the staffroom.
Inform Community Liaison regarding facilities availability.
The coordinating teacher should keep a record of all students attending the event.
Inform students through college announcements and the website.
Inform parents through students’ diaries of the event — including equipment required, food required, and cost of transport where necessary.
Requisition forms for hiring buses must be completed for all events and signed off by the Principal. Completed, approved bus forms should be handed into the office.
Check first aid equipment and standard of equipment at event site when appropriate. A First Aid Box is required per team.
Ensure the coach/teacher has mobile phone access to avail of emergency services if required.
Ensure that there is adequate supervision for the event/game.
Comply with the school’s Child Protection Policy at all times.
Training Hours

4:15 – 5:30 pm

Training begins at 4:15 pm and finishes at 5:15 / 5:30 pm.

Parents Please Note

Collection by 5:30

It is parents’ responsibility to collect students at 5:15 / 5:30 pm. Teachers are not in a position to supervise beyond this time. Travel to the community centre after school is the responsibility of parents and students.

Player Welfare

Player safety is the highest priority for all coaches. The following procedure must be followed for any serious injury.

1

Contact Emergency Contact

Phone the emergency contact — the school Principal or Deputy Principal.

2

Hospital Treatment

If hospital treatment is needed, a coach or teacher must accompany the player to hospital and wait until a parent or guardian has arrived to take over duty of care.

3

Suspected Concussion

The player cannot return to play without medical clearance — or, in absence of that, a 23-day no play or train period.

4

Accident / Incident Report

Any injury requiring medical care requires the team coach to fill in an accident/incident report form, which can be picked up and completed at the administration office.

Concussion Protocol: A player with suspected concussion cannot return to play without medical clearance, or in the absence of that, a mandatory 23-day no play or train period applies without exception.
