At Coláiste Bhaile Chláir, our Cúnamh Classes provide specialised support for autistic students and for students with Moderate General Learning Disabilities (MOGLD). We recognise that every student learns differently, and we tailor our teaching approaches to meet the individual needs, strengths, and interests of each learner.
The Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programmes are follow-on programmes for students progressing from the Level 2 Learning Programme (L2LP) at Junior Cycle. The goal of these senior cycle programmes is to prepare students for life beyond school, enabling them to become lifelong learners and live more independently. Both the Level 1 and Level 2 programmes at senior cycle are personalized to meet the individual learning needs of each student.
The Senior Cycle Level 2 Learning Programme (SCL2LP) consists of four curriculum areas:
Communication & Literacy
Numeracy
Personal Care
Electives
Students on the SCL2LP typically engage with seven elective modules alongside the core curriculum areas. The available SCL2LP elective modules are:
Cookery
Drama
Visual Art
Literature
Physical Education
My Life, My Finance
Area of Special Interest
As part of our commitment to physical development, life skills, and wellbeing, our class goes swimming every Friday. Swimming supports sensory regulation, builds motor skills, promotes independence, and gives students a fun, confidence-boosting experience each week.
Provide structured, predictable routines that support students with Autism and MOGLD.
Use visual supports, sensory strategies, and differentiated teaching approaches to help students stay regulated and engaged.
Prioritise independence skills — self-care, organisation, communication, decision-making, and daily living skills.
Focus on holistic development — including emotional wellbeing, social skills, and functional learning.
Create a warm and welcoming classroom environment where students feel safe, understood, and valued.
Collaborate closely with families and support services to ensure every learner’s needs are met effectively.
